Today's word on journalism

On protests at political conventions:

"The citizens of Denver and St. Paul, and Americans everywhere, should hope officials in those cities already have considered both the constitutional and monetary costs of silencing voices that have a right to be heard. . . . Well-expressed or wacky. Irritating or illuminating. Respectful or raucous. There's nothing in the 45 words of the First Amendment that sets out any such qualifications or limits on protests. Time and again in our history, from women's suffrage to civil rights to tax protests, to name just some, voices first raised in the streets -- to the disgust or disappointment of some -- have led to significant, positive changes in law and American life."

--Gene Policinski, executive director, First Amendment Center, 2008

Funny, cool action and actors in 'Get Smart'

By Sara Anderson

June 23, 2008 | Get Smart is a laugh-out-loud good time. The cast is perfect for the roles and makes the action and comedy look easy. This could be the comedy summer-blockbuster.

Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is an analyst for CONTROL, a secret spy agency. Smart is good at his job and has learned much about the members of their nemesis group KAOS. When security is breeched and the identities of CONTROL agents are compromised Smart's dream of becoming an agent becomes reality. Working along side the beautiful and talented Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway), Smart learns there is more to fieldwork then what you learn in a textbook. Together the two agents work to unveil KAOS' master plan to blow up Los Angeles while the president is visiting. With a secret double agent and a few unexpected kisses, this movie is full of surprise.

The action is stunning and hilarious. Explosions, train crashes, fighter jets, this movie is packed with intense moments. Steve Carell does not disappoint in this movie. There are so many supporting actors that add to the comedy, it is scene after scene of laughs. The movie has all the new spy gadgets you would expect with some classics moments.

With a few exceptions this movie is reasonably clean and all around fun. It is the same classic for a younger generation.
