Liberal Patriot:

"Molly Ivins was an unabashed patriot, and it drove right-wingers nuts. Conservatives somehow got it fixed in their brains that patriotism meant being in lockstep with their ideology, that dissent was treason. Molly made a career of reminding them otherwise, always careful to point out how cute they were when they acted like fools."

--Gary Cartwright, senior editor, Texas Monthly, 2007. Molly Ivins (1944-2007), a sharp-witted and clear-eyed columnist who died of cancer last year, was an unapologetic liberal. She once observed, "There's nothing you can do about being born liberal -- fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

Trial set for Willeto on sexual abuse charges

By C. Jake Williams

April 14, 2008 | LOGAN -- First District Court Judge Thomas Willmore on Monday ordered a two-day trial for Roger A. Willeto, 62, to resolve two charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Willmore ordered Willeto to have no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, in addition to a no-contact order regarding his alleged victim.

"You're not to have any direct or indirect contact," said Willmore.

A first-degree felony, each charge carries a sentence of not less than five years in prison should Willeto be convicted.

The trial is set for July 9-10, beginning at 8 a.m. each day. Attorney Shannon R. Demler will represent Willeto.

Willeto also must return to court June 16 at 1:30 p.m. for a final pretrial conference.
