‘Now, that’s funny!’ Families flock to North Logan Pumpkin Walk

NORTH LOGAN – Thirty-two years after the first Pumpkin Walk, North Logan is still providing the free activity run by the community, for the community.

The Pumpkin Walk committee decided on the theme, “Now that’s funny” for this year’s event, which inspired scenes of Minions, Robin Williams and Yogi Bear – along with many more.

The Pumpkin Walk was expected to attract people from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah to the event, which ran the weekend before Halloween, said Pumpkin Walk committee member Sandy Ballard, who is celebrating her 20^th year volunteering. For their scene this year, the Ballard family chose a four-piece Looney Tunes setup with characters made from pumpkins.

“I love that all the scenes are things kids can recognize,” said North Logan resident Karin Jones. “You can see kids get excited and call out to their moms when they see something they know.”

Pumpkin Walk themes tend to be pretty broad, Ballard said. In the past, themes have ranged from books and musicals to “once upon a time.” Generally, the theme for the Pumpkin Walk is decided by the end of the previous year, she said. Next year, Ballard is hoping for a Halloween theme, which has never been done before.

The event’s popularity has grown so much over the years that North Logan has had to close streets to accommodate the crowds. For the five evenings of the Pumpkin Walk, Oct. 22-24 and 26-27, the city closes roads near Elk Ridge Park and only allows parking on the perimeters. Suggested parking is at Greenville Elementary School, with buses running to and from the park starting at 6 p.m.

“I call it the Pumpkin Walk miracle,” Ballard said. “Everyone is happy when they come here. No one butts in line or gets mad at each other. Everyone is just here to have fun.”
